Week In Hitlon Head

Posted by Devon on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, In : Meeting People

On March Friday the 2nd, Mom left to go to some unknown place (Boston), before she left though, we went to an aerial obstacle climbing place. How you did it was that you first got into this harness and clipped on this safety roller thing to a wire so you don’t fall off the course and break your leg or something. The first thing we did I don’t remember, but we had to ride a fake bird to another platform for about 5 seconds. My favorite ride was one with a slide that you go down on that dro...

Second Boat Crash

Posted by Sahara on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, In : Meeting People

I have come to inform you all about the second time we were hit by a motor boat. There does seem to be a trend here.

Anyway, we were anchored out in the middle of nowhere, in a very strong current, perhaps going 4 knots (because of the 10 foot tide...it was a New moon). We had out 125 feet of chain in 13 feet of water at low tide. The motor boat was anchored behind us....until about 11 pm when the current changed directions and were now in front of us. Everyone was in bed- again, the hit ha...

Hilton Head, Mile 557

Posted by Bryan on Monday, November 18, 2013, In : Meeting People
We are now Half way between the Chesapeake bay and Miami (Biscayne Cay..where we will cross over).
so we Celebrated with some Mini Pies.  We make regular pie dough and pre cooked it in a muffin tin to make mini pie shells.  Then filled them with a precooked Bumble berry pie filling (strawberry, blue berry, and Raspberry).  They were great!

We tied up at a marina on Hilton Head Island and had my Cousin Debbie pick us up. A land of nice weather year round, great golf courses and a big sandy beach...

Staying in Reedville

Posted by Bryan on Monday, October 28, 2013, In : Meeting People
We have been in Reedville for almost 2 weeks, are very anxious to get going.  We have seen some family and friends and relaxed, but really need to get going.  The leaves are starting to change, it is getting cold at night, and Halloween is around the corner.  Tara went to Toronto and accepted her award, then flew to Boston to attend her conference.  Lots of good work and got caught up with people.

Here are some things we have done:

History lesson : Jamestown.

We drove to Jamestown, the oldest se...

5 inches of Rain !

Posted by Bryan on Saturday, October 12, 2013, In : Meeting People
For the last three days, we have had a LOT of rain in Gailville MD.  Over 5 inches of rain.  There has been strong  15 knot wind out of the North/ North East, with gusts from 20-30.  Something land lubbers don't realize, is that the gusts of wind are never in the same direction as the wind.  Strange as it is, it becomes supper apparent when in a sailboat.  For example, when at anchor, you boat points into the wind.  You feel the boat roll 5 degrees on its side as the gust hits from off centre...

Whity Friends

Posted by Bryan on Thursday, October 10, 2013, In : Meeting People
We have spent the last 3 days at the Whitby 42 Rendezvous.  It has been an amazing time, learning a lot about whitby 42's.  The best part is the people.  All the people we met are great people.  Many are going to the Bahamas this winter as well and it is nice to have people to look forward to meeting.  Some also live along the cost and we will be stopping to visit.  so exciting to see what others have done to their boats as well.
Although the weather has not been great, rainy with high N...

Rendezvous Whitby 42

Posted by Bryan on Monday, October 7, 2013, In : Meeting People
We are currently docked at the West River Sailing Club for the Whitby 42 Rendezvous.  There are currently 8 other Whitby 42's or Brewers (same basic boat, different year and different builder).  I think most have people living aboard them.  It will be fun to meet these people and get to know some storied about what they have done to their boats.

From here it will be to the Annapolise Boat show, one of the biggest in the world.  Then we are going to meet up with friends who live on the Eastern ...
