Aerial Course

Posted by Sahara on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, In : Going Ashore

Hello again, people who follow our blog. Now, just a note, I am going to refer the day that we did this activity as “today” when, in fact, we actually did it on Thursday last week. Anyway, said activity was an Aerial Course. An aerial rope course, in fact. That is when a bunch a people that labor many months to construct a giant obstacle course 50 feet in the air, in which you try to navigate without tragically falling to your death. This is quite difficult to do, seeing as they have high...

We had been at this marina for a while now, and had seen lots of signs for this one aquarium type place- Theater of the Sea-, so we decided to check it out. We got their early in the morning, so not many people were there, and discovered that they have a small cat army hanging out in the place. (sign said do not play with cats.....opps)
We saw at least 5 cats, and also many iguanas. Anyway, since this post is supposed to be about the Theater, I shall not go on about th...

Marina Del Mar

Posted by Devon on Monday, December 23, 2013, In : Going Ashore
December 20-26th
At the marina.

The brought our cameras to the pools because we thought of taking some (a lot) of underwater pictures, the pictures were really funny because they have a lot of background features that were funny. For example, you can see me swimming through Sahara's head.  The Marina has 4 different pools and 3 hot tubs to hang out in. The Pools are salt water pools, so no chlorine smell.  They have cookies at 3:00 each day.

Jellyfish Cumberland Island

Posted by Devon on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, In : Going Ashore

Yesterday when we were walking down a beach I spotted a weird blue thing and thought it was a shell. I almost picked it up but I noticed that it was a jellyfish. I was really freaked out because well,,, it was a jellyfish but it was blue. I picked up a stick and started scraping the sand off and it started to look like a man o' war jellyfish, so we all started looking at it and suggesting types of jellyfish it could be. So we decided on the man o' war jellyfish and kept walking. But l...

Cumberland Island Georgia Nov 24

Posted by Sahara on Sunday, November 24, 2013, In : Going Ashore

Today was the complete opposite of yesterday, as it was cold and had 30 knot gust winds. So when mom made us very yummy muffins-in case you haven’t noticed, we looove our muffins- we decided to go back to the island and explore the woods. The woods were very cool, with the Spanish moss and huge old trees and the palm shrubberies, and looked like it would be perfect for a Halloween party or celebration.

This island was said to have 3 types of poisonous snaked- no...

Cumberland Island, Nov 23

Posted by Sahara on Sunday, November 24, 2013, In : Going Ashore
By Sahara

Yesterday we set off in the amazingly snazzy dinghy to go to the island. Since it was warm and practically no wind at all, we decided it was going to be a beach day. To get to the beach you had to walk through a maritime forest, which consisted mostly of live oak and small palm shrub type things and Spanish beards. Then you had to walk over the dunes-they didn’t let you walk on the dunes for fear of erosion-, and then you got to the beach. It wasn’t a very inhabited beach; we o...

St Simons Georgia

Let’s see, how to make this day interesting to all you people reading this.  We started the day-I think all my entries start like this- by waking up, slowly making ourselves get out of bed, speeding up dramatically when you hear mom is making muffins, and then eating said muffins.  Which were fantastic, by the way. Chocolate chips, yummy yummy. Argh, I think I just creeped out every sane person reading this. So to carry on, we then all went and took showers. I think I have been awa...

Wye Island

Posted by Sahara on Sunday, September 29, 2013, In : Going Ashore
Anchored in a remote spot. We took the fleet ashore, and hiked on trails in Wye island.

Hiked down 300 year old trail, bordered by Osage trees.

Found proof that my Dad had a brain. Actually, the green ball is the fruit of the osage trees. They were a lot of them on the trails.

Devon died on a tree. Such a sad way to go..

Found bizarre vine.

Sharks Teeth

Posted by Bryan on Friday, September 27, 2013, In : Going Ashore
September 23rd.

Growing up, I used to visit a small town off Plum Point.  The beaches there are large sandy beaches and great for finding sharks teeth.  So we beached under a small cliff and went searching.  In an hour and a half we found a nice haul of teeth.  This place is north from famous Calvert Cliffs.  The sharks teeth are a few million years old.
